Revision of GHG emission target by 2030
04/01/2024 NewsIn April 2021, NICHIAS Group declared to achieve “carbon neutral by 2050". And established a target for reducing the group's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, such as carbon dioxide. Since then, the world has been concerned about the intensification of natural disasters and the impact on biodiversity due to the progress of global warming, and to realize a decarbonized society, there is a growing trend toward sustainable economic activities that coexist with nature. Furthermore, the Paris Agreement, an international framework, calls for limiting the global temperature rise to 2°C or less, and further efforts to limit it to 1.5°C.
Therefore, our group has revised its carbon neutral declaration in order to further reduce its impact on the global environment and take on the challenge of meeting the Paris Agreement's effort goal of keeping temperature to 1.5℃.
NICHIAS Group Carbon-Neutral Declaration
Specifically, we have changed our direct GHG emissions (Scope 1,2) target for 2030 from 188,000 tons-CO2eq, a 30% reduction compared to FY2019, to 148,000 tons-CO2eq, a 42% reduction compared to FY2021. Additionally, we have set a new supply chain GHG emissions (Scope 3) target of 25% reduction by 2030 (compared to base line 2021). This new target value complies with the target value of SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative), an international climate change initiative, and we are currently preparing for SBT certification.
Aiming to achieve carbon neutral by 2050, our group strongly promoting to reduce GHG emissions in our supply chain by reducing GHG emissions from our own business activities and developing and expanding sales of products that contribute to improved energy-saving performance. We will continue to reduce it.
